Armenian-Azeri relations will not improve with Aliyev’s reelection – analyst
Ilham Aliyev has large opportunities to be reelected in the upcoming presidential elections, but no improvement must be expected in Armenian-Azeri relations with Aliyev’s reelection, political scientist Menua Soghomonyan told reporters in Yerevan.
According to him, the situation of war may be beneficial to Aliyev in terms of strengthening his positions against that backdrop.
“Armenia manages to balance the arms race unleashed by Azerbaijan. And it is the balance of forces that keeps Azerbaijan from resuming the war,” Soghomonyan said.
Azeri studies expert Sargis Asatryan, for his part, said that Armenia should not enter into an arms race with Azerbaijan because that country has big financial resources. We should use other means of influence on Azerbaijan, he said.
He also said that Ilham Aliyev maintains chances of winning the presidential elections.
