Amnesty takes effect today
The decision on the declaration of amnesty in Armenia takes effect today, a spokesman for the Justice Ministry's Penitentiary Department, Gor Ghlechyan, told Panorama.am.
“All convicts to whom the amnesty extends will be released from prisons. I think we should manage to release all of them today,” he said.
About 600 convicts will be released under the amnesty declared on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of Armenia’s independence. About another 600 convicts will have their prison terms shortened. The deadline for the amnesty is December 25, 2013.
