Euronews: Pro-governmental Azerbaijani journalists attack OSCE delegates in Baku
Critical assessment of international monitors of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE / ODIHR) concerning the previous presidential election in Azerbaijan had caused a sharp reaction of the pro-governmental Azerbaijani journalists, Euronews writes reports.
OSCE onitors said that the elections in Azerbaijan were held in terms of restriction of freedom of expression and freedom of assembly. In addition there were no equal conditions provided for the candidates.
“Our observers received allegations of intimidation, witnessed even physical attacks on journalists in the lead up to an election day, which we found seriously flawed.” Tana de Zulueta, the head of the OSCE observer mission to Azerbaijan said.
As noted in the article, according to the Central Election Commission, the incumbent president Ilham Aliyev received more than 84% of the votes, while his main rival - the candidate of the opposition party National Council of Democratic Forces Jamil Hasanly received less than 6%. Members of the opposition claim of frauds and illegality of the elections and are going to contend the results.
