ICRC representatives meet with Armenian POW in Azerbaijan
Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have met with Armenian POW Hakob Injighulyan in Azerbaijan today, Zara Amatuni, head of communication programs of the ICRC Yerevan Office, told Panorama.am.
The POW and his family exchanged information through the ICRC representatives, she said.
Asked if there is any information about the POW’s return or transfer to a third country, Ms Amatuni said that “the fact that the ICRC representatives have met with him in Azerbaijan means that the POW remains in that country.”
“We have no other comment,” she added.
On the night of August 7, Hakob Injighulyan, an Armenian citizen and an army conscript, crossed the Azeri border and was subsequently captured by Azeri soldiers. According to preliminary information, Injighulyan had lost his bearings on the terrain and inadvertently crossed the line of contact.
