Melkonyan: Armenian-Turkish Protocols became a headache for Turkey
The civilized international community saw that the Armenia-Turkey reconciliation failed because of Turkey’s destructive policy, Turkish studies expert Ruben Melkonyan told a press conference in Yerevan when commenting on the Armenian-Turkish Protocols initiated 4 years ago.
According to the expert, in international relations, the process itself is often more important than its logical end. In this respect, according to him, the Armenian side derived the maximum from the Armenia-Turkey reconciliation process and showed the international community that Turkey does not fulfill its commitments.
The Turkish studies expert noted that the developments of the past 4 years showed that the Turkish side is most interested in the Protocols and tries to find justifications for the existing situation.
“The Protocols became a headache for Turkey,” said the expert.
Regarding the future of the Armenian-Turkish Protocols, Melkonyan said that there are two ways – “either the protocols will become a basis for new negotiations and new protocols, or we can dump them with a calm conscience knowing that we have derived the maximum from them.”
