Sharmazanov: Armenia-EU cooperation is based on mutual interest
The statement made by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on September 3 on the entry into the Customs Union initially caused an emotional reaction, but subsequently European officials stated that they regard Armenia’s decision with understanding and respect and that dialogue with Armenia will continue, Armenian National Assembly’s Deputy Speaker Edward Sharmazanov told Panorama.am.
Cooperation between Armenia and the European Union is based on mutual interest and the parties seek to deepen the cooperation, according to Sharmazanov.
“We cooperate with Europe not for the purpose of showing that the process goes on – cooperation with Europe is in our interests, the reform process is in full swing, our elections meet European standards and Armenian citizens are protected,” the Deputy Speaker said.
“There is a need to continue the dialogue, and it will continue. The Armenian President said that in his speech at the PACE session and at the question-and-answer session,” he added.
