Azerbaijani was released under amnesty in Armenia
In the Armenian prison I was not subjected to abuse, I was being fed normally, told Georgian citizen from Azerbaijan Allahverdi Pelengov to Azerbaijani news agency APA. He was detained in Armenia while crossing the Armenian – Georgian border illegally.
According to Pelengov he was arrested on August 17 on the border line while grazing his own cattle. On August 19, investigator obtained evidence and he was taken to prison.
“I was released under an amnesty signed by Armenian president on the occasion of Armenia's independence on September 21,” Pelengov told.
He told he was released on October 17 “On this day, the Consul of the Embassy of Georgia and an investigator named Tigran Sinoyan released me from prison, later the consulate sent me to Georgia.”
According to him he didn’t know where the Georgian- Armenian border checkpoint was. “There is no border fencing, barbed wire, no signs pointing to the border line,” Pelengov noted.
On 17 October Georgian MP Mahir Darziev was among those meeting Pelengov. He noted that the Georgian governmental bodies have to face and give solution to the issue of delimitation and border demarcation. “This scrupulous issue and its solution need time. Armenia and Georgia are friendly countries and the two are rather sensitive about this issue. However, in order to prevent similar incidents a “hot line” or mobile groups are needed to be created under the control of the Georgian border guards. This issue will be put on the agenda,” Darziev said.
