CoE Secretary General: Minorities' rights should be protected
The European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) concern the protection of the fundamental rights as well as the limitation of the powers of the majority, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland said at the Yerevan-hosted forum on “Fight against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Europe.”
“The majority should ensure the protection of the minorities’ rights so as to avoid wars. The minorities – ethnic, religious and sexual – should be protected,” Mr Jagland said.
