ANC member sees no necessity for raising government officials’ salaries
I see neither any ground nor any necessity for it. I do not know what it can change, representative of the opposition Armenian National Congress, economist Vahagn Khachatryan told Panorama.am, while commenting on the bill on raising the salaries of government officials.
“The fight against corruption is mentioned as one of the key aims of this initiative. But I think it will not solve the problem. The problem does not lie in salaries. Combating corruption must be a political decision,” the economist said, adding that the increase of officials’ salaries may lead to the increase of corruption.
Mr Khachatryan supports the view that there are dozens of people who need an increase of salaries.
“I am in no hurry to draw conclusions. I will give a final assessment at the end of this week, after a thorough examination of the issue,” he said.
