Energy Ministry: Armenia’s power supply system disconnected from Iran’s energy system
The cause of the large-scale power outage in Armenia was disconnection of Armenia’s power supply system from Iran’s energy system, head of the Public Relations Department of Armenia’s Energy Ministry Lusine Harutyunyan told Panorama.am.
“On September 22, the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant was disconnected from the power generation network for annual repairs and refueling. These works will last for 54 days and during this period Armenia will be receiving electricity from Iran. The disconnection of the 2 power grids led to lowering of the frequency to 45 Hz, which caused the power outage,” she said.
A large-scale power outage happened today, at 10:25 local time in the capital and several Armenian provinces. The outage disrupted the services of Yerevan metro. A failure in the power supply system was mentioned as the cause of the outage.
