Financing of Meghri HPP construction discussed in Iran
The Armenian Energy Minister and the Bank Saderat Iran (The Export Bank of Iran) CEO have discussed financing of joint energy projects, Poolnews.ir reported.
During the meeting, Armen Movsisyan expressed a wish for the expansion of bilateral cooperation and added that he would like Bank Saderat Iran to continue financing energy projects of Armenia, particularly the construction of Meghri hydroelectric power plant.
A delegation headed by Armenia’s Energy Minister left for Iran on November 4 in order to attend the opening ceremonies of International Water and Wastewater Exhibition (WATEX) and International Electricity Exhibition.
“Iran widely cooperates with Armenia in the area of energy," Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian told reporters following his meeting with Armen Movsisyan.
“Our country exports gas to Armenia in exchange for electricity. In case of an increase of our energy resources, there will be an opportunity to connect Iran’s electricity supply network to Russia through Armenia and Georgia,” he said.
The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said recently that around 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas has been traded with Armenian electricity in 2007-2012.
