Ombudsman’s representatives meet with activists arrested during November 5 incident
The Armenian Ombudsman’s advisor on detainees and representatives of the rapid response group of the Ombudsman’s Office have met with the people arrested during the November 5 incident in Yerevan’s Mashtots Avenue, including Tseghakron party leader Shant Harutyunyan, Ombudsman’s spokeswoman, Naira Karmirshalyan, told Panorama.am.
“At the time of the visit, there were no traces of violence on the detainees. However, I cannot give details of the meeting because we have to maintain confidentiality,” the spokeswoman said.
On November 5, Shant Harutyunyan, a 48-year-old leader of the Tseghakron party, and his supporters initiated a protest in Yerevan as part of the Million Mask March world event promoted by Anonymous. But the peaceful march turned violent as demonstrators used firecrackers and sticks to confront police. Several policemen were injured in the clashes. 38 people were detained.
