Tension in Tehran and Baku relations: Iran closes Bileh Savar’s and Jolfay checkpoints
“Iran has closed Bileh Savar’s and Jolfay checkpoints in response to the steps of Azerbaijan,” the Iranian IRNA news agency reports. The Azerbaijani news agency Trend had recently issued a statement that Iranian side has opened fire at the direction of the tractor which was working at the riverbank of Araks.
The Iranian source has touched upon the abovementioned information and said, “According to the international standards the border-guards of two countries should meet in such cases in order to solve the existing problem. However, against the request of the Iranian side the Azerbaijani side refused to hold talks with the Iranian side thus violating the bilateral agreement. It always closed the checkpoint of Poldasht-Shah Takht because of the incident that occurred near the Poldasht village. The Iranian drivers faced big problems because of this.”
“IRI has made a corresponding warning after two days and in response to the unclear steps of Azerbaijan has closed Bileh Savar and Jolfy checkpoints,” the Iranian source notes.
