Kocharyan: Armenia should not recognize NKR’s independence at this stage
Armenia should not recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh at this stage, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan announced during the parliamentary discussions of the bill on “Recognition of NKR’s independence” submitted by head of Heritage opposition faction Zaruhi Postanjyan.
“I mean de jure recognition as Armenia recognized de facto the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic long ago,” he said.
According to the Deputy FM, some 100 agreements in various fields have been signed between Armenia and NKR.
“Armenia should not remain alone, recognizing the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh,” Kocharyan said, noting that it happened in the case of Cyprus.
In his opinion, the recognition of NKR by Armenia at this stage will allow Azerbaijan to reject the OSCE Minsk Group format. However, he added, the Armenian National Assembly should not give Azerbaijan such an opportunity.
