‘‘Azadlig’’: British Parliament called presidential elections in Azerbaijan fabricated
The British Parliament started collecting signatures in support of the decision on recognition of the presidential elections in Azerbaijan as rigged. 13 MPs have already signed the document, "Azadlig" reports.
The campaign was initiated by two deputies from the ruling Conservative Party and the oppositionist Labor Party. They told at the debate that they were shocked with the apparent frauds that have taken place during the Azerbaijani elections, including the voting results published beforehand.
The parliamentarians expressed their support for the assessment of the OSCE mission at the elections and welcomed the principle disposition of this organization. They also drew their attention to the violations recorded by the OSCE mission. It is noted that the U.S. State Department had also stated that the Azerbaijani elections did not meet international standards.
At the same time, the British parliamentarians stated that they were surprised by the assessment of the PACE observers. "It is surprising that in its statement PACE delegation did not note any violation. It is a blow to PACE’s reputation, which is aimed at protecting the human rights," the British parliamentarians note.
