New computer rooms and gyms open in southern regions of Armenia with support of Orange Foundation
Orange continues the realization of its projects aimed at the community development and technological evolution of the regions of Armenia. This week a number of projects were realized in Syunik and Vayots Dzor regions, including the creation of computer rooms in Martiros and Shaghat villages and furnishing of a gym in Angeghakot village.
The computer rooms will allow the inhabitants of these two villages, without the necessity to have a computer and internet at home, to use modern technologies, learn to use different programs, have access to the worldwide web, participate in online discussions and forums, as well as in educational programs. Thanks to the 7 computers, printer and Orange MyFi router, each computer center provides computer classes and gives access to the worldwide web to all inhabitants of the village. For the creation of the two computer centers Orange has allotted a total of 4.7m AMD.
As a reminder, Orange is the only operator having built a network with up to 42.2 Mbps network in the 5 largest cities and up to 21.6Mbps download speed capabilities in the regions of Armenia, including several villages not covered by any other operator, with the objective to make accessible modern technologies to the largest part of the population. It is with this logic that the company supports the creation of computer rooms in the regions, which are already 17 in number.
As part of the same vision of supporting the development of remote and vulnerable communities, the Orange Foundation financed the furnishing of a gym in Angeghakot village, which is equipped with a variety of sports facilities. Presently it can fully meet the requirements set by the sports program of the school. The gym will not only serve the children, but also other local residents, in order to organize sport events and contests. Orange has invested 2.9m AMD for the equipment of the gym.
Francis Gelibter, Orange Armenia CEO and Chairman of Board of the Orange Foundation, said: “Orange has done a lot of efforts to build a modern network in Armenia and to make modern technologies available to everyone. But understanding that not everyone can afford to have a computer at home and have access to internet, we feel it’s our responsibility to support these vulnerable groups, especially in the Armenian regions, where internet is just starting to become an everyday tool. We are also happy to be able to help Armenian communities to organize their sport activities and education processes in a comfortably designed gym.”
The number of gyms equipped with the support of the Orange Foundation in the Armenian villages is already 11.
