Davutoglu comments on invitation to attend BSEC Summit in Yerevan
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, among other issues, commented on the Armenia-Turkey normalization process at a press conference following his meeting with his British counterpart William Hague.
Commenting on the invitation for him to attend a scheduled summit of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) in Yerevan in early December, Davutoglu said, “It is a multi-lateral meeting, with all sides invited. It should not be regarded as something special.”
“As for the normalization of relations with Armenia, Azerbaijan’s President was recently on a visit to Turkey and we discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh issue as well as the processes taking place between Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan. We all wish the process to be speeded up,” Davutoglu was quoted as saying by Turkish newspaper Zaman.
Turkey’s FM went on to say that he raised the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh with Secretary of State John Kerry during talks in Washington on November 19. He said that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue will also be discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin during Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s upcoming visit to Russia.
“We wish normalization of relations with Armenia and establishment of stable peace in the South Caucasus through peaceful settlement of the problems between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We will do our utmost for it,” Davutoglu concluded.
