‘‘Publika.az’’: Cases of sexual abuse of fathers against their sons and daughters have become more frequent in Azerbaijan
The number of sexual offenses has increased in Azerbaijan; among them there are under-aged boys and girls. Due to the fact that such crimes are kept in secret, the children of the criminals become the victims. Most of them occur in districts, but Baku is no exception, writes the Publika.az.
According to the statistics, sexual crimes against children in Azerbaijan make up 4%. Sexual assault against girls under the age of 16 makes 20% - it is about 150-180 cases per year.
As the Azerbaijani psychologist Elnur Rustamov notes at the interview with Azxeber.com website, the topic of sexual violence of fathers against their children, brothers against their sisters should not be covered in the media as news, but as a journalistic investigation, otherwise such information becomes tempting for many others who then tend to repeat those actions.
According to the psychologist, often the men who have no authority in the family rape their daughters in Azerbaijan. The second risk group is the chronic alcoholics’ families.
