Hraparak: Ayntap residents terrified by prospect of ex-village head’s return
The village of Ayntap in Armenia’s Ararat province is divided into two camps ahead of the December 8 elections of village head, Hraparak writes. The newspaper says that Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) member Karen Sargsyan is running for that post for the second time and former head of the village, non-partisan Lyova Tarverdyan is his rival. It is talked that he devastated the village. Tarverdyan sold lands belonging to the village and many are terrified by the prospect of his return. He has good connections and no less chance of winning the elections than the other candidate. Ayntap is the largest village in the province, with a population numbering 12,000 and a large budget, so a hot struggle is expected, the newspaper says.
