Hraparak: Prices rise ahead of New Year holidays
Discounts are offered by stores in all countries ahead of New Year holidays, while there is an opposite situation in Armenia, with prices becoming astronomical as the holidays approach, Hraparak daily says.
The newspaper notes that taking into consideration this fact, many people prefer doing their New Year shopping in early December and ordinary Armenians sometimes have to spend 2-3 months salary on New Year food.
“To be fair, we should say that some stores have reduced prices for some food products (rice, vegetable oil, flour). But Armenians like to offer traditional New Year food such as meat-stuffed pancakes, dolma, salads, candied fruits and sweets whose prices are up compared to last year,” the newspaper says.
