Serzh Sargsyan says meeting with Ilham Aliyev was positive
In his remarks at the Summit of the Heads of State of the Eastern Partnership countries in Vilnius, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, among other issues, spoke about his recent meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev, saying that the meeting was positive.
“A few days ago in Vienna after a pause of almost two years a meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan took place upon the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. Although it is too soon to talk of the results, the fact of the meeting in itself is a positive phenomenon,” President Sargsyan said.
“It is important to emphasize that the successful outcome of the negotiations in reality depends on our ability to reject the negative rhetoric and ease the tension on the Line of Contact. Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh have refrained from statements and steps that could destabilize the situation and embarked on the road of state-building founded upon democracy, human rights, free economic competition and freedom of speech, and unwaveringly move in that direction,” the President concluded.
