Armenian Prosecutor General ready to open criminal case based on Ombudsman’s report
Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan has responded to Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan’s special report on the right to a fair judicial inquiry. In a letter to the Ombudsman, he proposed to present at least one fact, on the basis of which a criminal case should be opened.
The letter says that the Prosecutor General’s Office examined the report and that it is ready to open a criminal case.
“The Ombudsman should present at least one fact, on the basis of which a criminal case should be opened. With no facts and only on the basis of studies, the Prosecutor General’s Office will not be able to take any actions on the issues raised in the report which contain elements of crime,” the letter reads.
