Assad’s regime is likely to strengthen, expert says
Turkish studies expert Ruben Melkonyan says there are three possible ways of the Assad regime’s overthrow.
He told reporters today that the first way is that Assad steps down, but the power remains in the hands of the same circles, the second way is that Syria splits into several state units and the third scenario is the worst one: Assad is removed from power by the rebels, radical Islamists.
According to the expert, if radical Islamists seize power in the Middle East, Armenia will be among their top enemies.
“However, this is unlikely to happen in the current circumstances. I think that Assad’s regime is likely to strengthen,” Melkonyan said.
