Yesterday in Azerbaijan the operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Sumgait sity police seized submachine gun Kalashnikov which was used during the armed clashes between the two extremist religious groups "Khawarij" and "Salafis," the Police Department of Sumgait told the Azerbaijani news agency "Vesti.az".

Firearms were seized from Elshan Musayev, a resident of the Jorat village, during a search at his home.

According to the news agency, on December 11 at the evening around nine o'clock in the 10th district of the town, near “Soltan” market dispute arose between religious people because of their religious ideology. The dispute escalated into armed clashes with the use of weapons and firearms.

Parties of the conflict, turned everything upside down in the tea house, and continued the fight in the street. There, noticing the intelligence agents who had arrived to the tea house, Elshan Musayev and Elnur Nazaraliev, the residents of Jorat district, threw a grenade at the security forces and opened fire from the guns. However, no police officer was hurt. On the contrary, it was Musayev and Nazaraliev who suffered. They received shrapnel wounds.

Anar Rahimov, born in 1982, Elmar Mamedli, born in 1976, Elnur Nazaraliev, born in 1988, and Elshan Musayev - were hospitalized with stab and shrapnel wounds.

It is reported that five members of armed skirmishes have been detained. Residents of Sumgait Zaur Pashayev and Murad Maherramov have been caught while trying to go abroad. During the search of the apartment of Elchin Akbarov, one of the detainees, two grenades have been found.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Pashaev and Magerramov were detained in Baku International Airport named after Heydar Aliyev while trying to leave for Turkey. It’s not established yet, to which formation do the detained Wahhabis-long beards belong to, but as the police noted, they are neither the "Forest Brothers", nor the "Jamaat of Sumgait."

Currently, the operative search continues. There is information that not all the members of the armed group are neutralized.
