US, EU play political game in Ukraine - William Jones
Press TV has conducted an interview with William Jones, with the Executive Intelligence Review, about a senior Russian lawmaker saying that US attempts to influence the situation in Ukraine to “take revenge” because of Washington's defeat in Syria.
- How do you respond to this comparison of Ukraine and Syria?
- Well generally he is correct. I think it is a little too simplistic because Syria actually helped to save Barack Obama from his own folly. If we had had a war in Syria you would have seen his popularity plunged but now he is kind of on the way up because what is going on in Syria, the movement towards diplomatic solution has really strengthened him rather than weakening him.
So I do not think it is kind of payback for that but it is obviously an aggression and it is a direct intervention by the forces, the UN, the United States in order to get regime change.
We are back to the Color Revolutions in one sense. It is primarily aimed against Russia, that is all, so absolutely correct. Ukraine is an absolute integral part of Russia economically, culturally, in many other ways and pulling it away from Russia into the failed EU - remember there are more countries who want to get out of the EU that want to get into it - is an attempt to weaken Russia.
So in his general remarks he is absolutely correct although I think the Syria thing is somewhat overrated.
- And speaking about Ukraine’s specifically, what do you think will happen going forward? You know there is much pressure on Viktor Yanukovych as far as you know US delegations, EU delegations have put on him?
- Well it is difficult to say because obviously there is a strong opinion in Ukraine at least in West Ukraine they want to be a little bit more part of Europe and that’s being played to the hilt by the EU and by others who feel really threatened by the proposals of President Putin bringing some of these countries together economically and also the shadow of China is there.
The EU is in many respects a failed state. It is not a state but it is a failed entity in which most of the countries there would really like to get out of there but they cannot because they have become enmeshed in this monster.
The East European countries, like people in Ukraine who are pushing for this, really do not understand the EU. This is not a Marshall Plan for them. EU membership for them would represent great suffering but they are young and mainly young kids and they are being manipulated and there is this great fear of Russia and it has been utilized to the hilt in order to create this regime change which I think would destabilize the entire area of central Europe in a very major way.
So it is a dangerous game that’s being played for political reasons by the EU and by the United States.
