Pedagogical University sums up 2013 activity results
Presided over by SPU Board Chairman, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the State Pedagogical University Academic Board held its yearend meeting on Monday, the government’s press service said.
After reporting back the annual activities, SPU Rector Ruben Mirzakhanyan introduced the University’s 2014 budget estimate. He said that as instructed by the Prime Minister, faculty salaries were raised by 40% as of January 1, 2013. In addition, computerized classrooms, reading rooms were set up. The humanities section of the library was equipped with new technology to enable the use of electronic literature. Academic curricula were revised and improved to introduce a new teaching methodology.
Regarding international cooperation, he touched upon the ongoing cooperation with the University of Oulu (Finland), which has enabled a new approach to teaching practice. The University Rector said that tuition fees remained the same in 2013 and will not be raised all the way through 2014.
The speakers hailed last year’s university reform, highlighting the introduction of an electronic reporting system for individual chairs, the increase in the volume of foreign language teaching, modernization and refurbishment and so on.
The Board approved the work done in the period under review and the budget estimate for 2014. In conclusion, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan congratulated Deputy Minister of Education and Science Manuk Mkrtchyan on his birthday and wished him good health and productive work.
