Azerbaijan remains in list of imminent danger areas for service in which U.S. military personnel receive allowance
In early 2014 the Pentagon issued a statement which says that some countries are excluded from the list of areas for the service in which American military personnel receive allowance. The information is available at the official website of Pentagon.
Thus, according to the statement the imminent danger areas are the following: Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Pakistan, Syria, Yemen and Egypt. Imminent danger pay will as well remain in effect for the military personnel in service in Guantanamo (Cuba), Israel, Azerbaijan and Greece.
Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will no longer be considered as imminent danger areas. In general, the U.S. reduced the number of countries in the list saving $100 million a year. In 2012 the U.S. spent $500 million on allowance of armed forces personnel.
On the eve Azerbaijani news portal Haqqin.az reported that the Pentagon thus recognized the U.S. military presence in Azerbaijan.
At the request of 1news.az news agency American embassy to Baku clarified the issue claiming that no U.S. military base is present in the territory of Azerbaijan.
According to the deputy of the parliament of Azerbaijan, political scientist Rasim Musabekov, there is some military personnel present in Azerbaijan who secures the transit of goods to Afghanistan.
