Seyran Ohanyan on Armenian POW and border tensions
Armenian Defense Ministry is doing its best to return POW Hakob Injighulyan, the Defense Minister has said.
“However, the absence of state contacts with Azerbaijan hinders that process,” Seyran Ohanyan told a news conference on Friday. The Minister replied to the question of whether the recent border tensions will affect soldier Hakob Injighulyan held in Azeri captivity.
“The recent border tensions are part of certain processes and political negotiations,” he said, adding that the recent events are also connected with the so-called Black January in Azerbaijan.
Ohanyan stressed that the Armenian side does not respond to Azerbaijan’s desultory fire.
Regarding the situation at Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan, in Tavush province, the Minister said that gunfire is nothing new in that section and that the situation is under control.
“There will be gunfire until a peace treaty is signed. And we will give them an adequate response,” Ohanyan said.
