Transformation Index 2014: Azerbaijan is outsider in region in connection with democracy development
German Bertelsmann Foundation (Bertelsmann Stiftung) has published another data of research of Transformation Index (BTI) 2014, which shows the achievements of the transitional period towards democracy. According to the rating, Armenia is on the 62nd place in the world, Azerbaijan - 88th, Georgia - 48th.
Among the CIS countries only Moldova and Ukraine are ahead of Armenia. Belarus ranks 101st, Kazakhstan - 83rd, Kyrgyzstan - 66th, Moldova - 45th, Russia - 77th, Tajikistan - 103rd, Turkmenistan - 115th, Ukraine - 57th.
In general, the indicators of 129 countries are examined. The authors assess the countries by 17 criteria including the degree of participation of the citizens in political life, the quality of the legal system, the stability of democratic institutions, socio-economic and competition development.
The leaders of the ranking are Taiwan, the Czech Republic and Estonia. North Korea, Eritrea and Somalia close the list.
