James Warlick: Sides must focus on finding peace
“Regret another death on Line of Contact. Sides must focus on finding peace; escalation is in no one’s interest,” U.S. Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick wrote on Twitter, commenting on the recent tensions along the Line of Contact.
On the night of January 20, Azeri units tried to infiltrate Armenian positions in northeastern and southeastern sections of the contact line of Karabakh and Azeri troops. The frontline units of the NKR Defense Army fought back the incursion in both directions and threw back the enemy, causing considerable material and human losses. On the following days, Azeri forces continued to violate the ceasefire and fired not only at military positions but also at Armenian settlements. Azerbaijan also used air force. Armenia has announced that it will not respond to desultory fire of the enemy, and will respond to sniper fire only.
