BP: Oil production in Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli filed is to be reduced in 2014 in Azerbaijan
In 2014, oil production in the Azer-Chirag-Guneshli filed of the Azerbaijani Caspian sector will be lower than it was in 2013, BP President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey Gordon Birell said, reports the Azerbaijani news agency "APA."
He noted that totally, 32.5m tonnes of oil were produced in Azer-Chirag-Guneshli fields last year.
“BP-Azerbaijan and SOCAR should agree on the volume of oil production. We think that this figure will be lower than in 2013,” Gordon Birell said.
Birell said that fall in production will be related to the closure of 2 platforms in AGC block: “Operation of Central Azeri and Western Azeri platforms will be suspended in 2014. There is a great need for it to produce better and higher quality oil.”
Oil volume in Azerbaijan has started to decline since 2011. Thus if in 2010 around 50,8 million tons of oil was pumped out, then the oil volume was reduced to 10.8% which is 45,4 million tons in 2011. In 2012 the volume of oil production declined to 5,3% which is 43 million tons. In 2013, according to official figures, Azerbaijan has produced 43.1 million tons of oil.
During 2013, the tendency of the oil exports volume reduction from Azerbaijan continued. Thus, in 2013 the republic exported 34.245 million tons of oil, which is 2% less than it was in 2012. In 2012 Azerbaijan exported 34,935,943 tons of oil, which is 6.7% lower than it was in 2011.
