France working on Genocide denial ban, Justice Minister confirms
Speaking at a formal event hosted by the French-Armenian community, French Minister of Justice Christiane Taubira confirmed that the French government is working on a bill that would criminalize public denial of the Armenian Genocide, Asbarez reports.
“The French government is working on a legal instrument condemning the denial of the Armenian Genocide in accordance with the principles of the Constitution and the European and international commitments of France,” Taubira said.
The Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCAF) hosted an official dinner on Jan. 29, the anniversary of France’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide (2001), journalist Jean Eckian reported.
Attending the event were Armenian Ambassador to Switzerland Charles Aznavour, French Minister of Justice Christiane Taubira, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to France Vigen Tchitetchian, other politicians, public figures and mass media representatives.
During the event CCAF presented the official logo that will be used to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
