Brawl in Azerbaijani parliament: Deputies have been searched and phones have been taken away
At a meeting of the Azerbaijani Parliament the Security Service detained MP Fazil Mustafa and tried to search him through, the deputy told Azerbaijani news portal "Haqqin.az".
According to the article, the security officers, referring to the fact that it is not allowed to carry in phones to the Parliament, demanded that the MP handed his “Samsung” phone. In its turn, the MP insisted that his phone is not a smartphone but a simple, ordinary phone. Thereafter, the chief of Security Service of the Parliament approached Fazil Mustafa and a scuffle arose between them. As a result, Fazil Mustafa stated, that he is an MP, and they have no right to search him through.
It is noted that another deputy, Ilyas Ismailov, faced the same problem.
"A bit later, the security officers of the Parliament approached Ilyas Ismayilov and tried to search him through. Ismailov asked to present a relevant document as an evidence of a ban on keeping smartphones in the building of the parliament. Verbal altercation ensued between the MP and the representatives of the security service. After the intervention of the security administration the conflict was resolved," the portal writes.
As "Haqqin.az" notes, the other MPs were also threatened and harassed by the "illegitimate and self-proclaimed bodyguards of the Speaker O. Asadov."
During the autumn session of the parliament, journalists had recorded on their smartphones the MPs voting instead the others. These records have been spread through all media and called criticism on the MPs behavior. After that, press secretary of the Azerbaijani parliament Akif Tevekkyuloglu announced a ban on bringing smartphones in to the legislative Assembly.
