Renowned Armenian writer Hrant Matevosyan would have turned 79 today
Today, February 12, marks the birthday of renowned Armenian writer Hrant Matevosyan.
Hrant Matevosyan (February 12, 1935 - December 19, 2002) was an Armenian writer, script writer and an outstanding representative of contemporary Armenian fiction.
Hrant Matevosyan was born in the village of Ahnidzor, Armenia's Lori region. In 1952 he moved to Yerevan where he worked in a printing house. From 1958 until 1962, Matevosyan was a proofreader in the Sovetakan Grakanutyun (Soviet Literature) magazine and the Grakan Tert (Literary Newspaper) newspaper. He headed the Writers' Union of Armenia from 1995 until 2000. His literary pieces have been translated in around 40 languages, including Russian, English, French, German, Lithuanian, Lithuanian, Estonian, Georgian, etc. Hrant Matevosyan died on December 19, 2002 at age 67. He has two children, a son and a daughter.
