Guren Margaryan was killed only for being Armenian – Seyran Ohanyan
Today Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan visited the monument to slain Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the brutal axe-murder.
Lieutenant Gurgen Margaryan was murdered in his sleep by Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov on February 19, 2004, in Budapest, as the two were attending three-month English language courses as part of NATO’s “Partnership for Peace” program.
“Ten years have passed, and we have come to pay tribute to the Armenian officer. Our officer was killed only for being Armenian and the murderer admitted that he planned to kill an Armenian,” Seyran Ohanyan said.
Armenia’s defense chief also visited Yerablur Military Pantheon and laid flowers at Gurgen Margaryan’s grave. Later he met with Gurgen Margaryan’s family and talked to his parents.
