It is ex-employee of National Security Ministry of Azerbaijan who transferred classified material to Ismailova
Azerbaijani journalist Khadija Ismailova confessed that the material that she posted in Facebook which deals with the recruitment of opposition figures by Azerbaijani Special Forces was transferred to her by a former investigator Ramin Nagiev who is currently in political emigration in France, Azerbaijani news agency Turan states.
As it is stated in the article, Ismailova released the information only after Nagiev himself wrote about this on his Facebook page.
Turan as well reads that on Friday Ismailova for the fourth time this week was questioned as a witness in the Investigation Department for Grave Crimes of Azerbaijani General Prosecutor’s Office.
According to Ismailova, the investigators once more asked questions about her meeting with the representatives of the U.S. Senate in the restaurant, Art Garden.
“Ismailova was told that she had given state secret documents to the American Intelligence. Ismailova asked in response how the investigators knew that the Americans were from intelligence service,” Turan reads.
Ismailova as well noted that there was nothing of criminal nature in her meeting with the official staff of the Senate and that the guests in the course of their visit as well met with the President of Diplomatic Academy and Deputy Foreign Minister Hafiz Pashayev.
Ismailova also pointed to the impossibility of the fact that the deputy Ceyhun Osmanli recorded the conversation because when the deputy came to the restaurant they had almost finished the conversation.
“And I don’t know what was under our table,” ironically noted Ismailova.
Azerbaijani news portal Haqqin.az on its turn, reports that Ramin Nagiev fled from Baku to Moscow in October 2000 and then with the help of the representatives of Azerbaijani Diaspora was transferred to France. Starting from October 2000 Ramin Nagiev hasn’t had access to the documents of the Ministry of National Security.
“How could he send the document formed in 2003 to Khadija Ismailova if in 2000 he was granted political asylum in France and in fact became one of the enemies of the Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan?” the author wonders.
Azerbaijani newspaper Zerkalo states that this story is completely fabricated. Such stories come to prove the absence of civil peace in Azerbaijan and even separate elements of social contract inherent in civilized societies in socio-political and state system.
“Let’s assume that the exposure of valuable agent of American intelligence, Ismailova became possible in the course of circumstances. In other words, it occurred by chance, everything happened at the right time and right place. But then a question arises: why on such pure luck no one was in the right place at the right time when Elmar Huseynov and Rafik Taqi were killed, when the recording equipment was being installed in the bedroom of Ismailova?” the newspaper reads.
Such accusations as espionage and state treason are new methods of persecution in Azerbaijan though independent journalists have always been subjects of harassment in the country. The article published in the website of British Institute of War and Peace reporting (IWPR) reads.
As it is stated in the article, Ayten Farhadova who is also engaged in investigative journalism believes that the authorities of Azerbaijan are trying to suppress Ismailova and her activities.
“As long as she is questioned she is distracted from her investigations. This is exactly what the authorities long for; to suspend the appearance of the articles revealing their corrupt activities. They are trying to put psychological pressure on her,” Farhadova noted.
According to the article, despite the fact that the investigation limited her opportunity to travel, it is unlikely that they will break her spirit. According to Ismailova she has processed several major journalistic investigations which are nearly published. “It doesn’t matter I will be arrested or not, these materials will be published,” Ismailova stated.
