South Dakota House of Representatives rejects anti-Armenian resolution
Anti-Armenian resolution, initiated by Azerbaijan, has been presented to the House of Representatives of U.S. State South Dakota. The Asbarez.com editorial reports about this citing American Committee of Hay Dat (ANCA) and notes that the biased and historically inaccurate measure, promoted by Azerbaijani lobbyists, has been rejected.
As it is stated, after an extensive discussion in the House of Representatives, one of the authors of the resolution, Lance Russell agreed to postpone it and ultimately withdrew the resolution at all.
According to the Representative of the House Steve Hickey it is good that now there are 105 legislators in South Dakota who are well informed about the persecutions towards Armenians.
ANCA Executive Director of Western region Elen Asatryan expressed her satisfaction with the fact that the elected leaders of yet another U.S. state stopped the efforts of corrupt regime of oil-rich Azerbaijan to export his hateful anti-Armenian campaign to the American heartland.
“We share our profound thanks with the proud people and principled leaders of South Dakota, a state that has shown remarkable care and compassion for the Armenians since the Armenian Genocide era,” Elen Asatryan said.
It is noted in the article that before the discussion of the resolution ANCA-WR were working with the leaders and activists of local community to alert state legislators about Azerbaijan’s efforts to use the Khojalu issue to somehow enlist South Dakota in its increasingly virulent campaign against Armenia.
Note that On February 12 the legislature of the U.S. State of Hawaii discussed and rejected two anti-Armenian resolutions which were financed by the government of Azerbaijan. At that time ANCA Executive director Aram Hamparian with an open letter appealed to the U.S. legislature where called to show resistance to the interference of corrupt regime of Azerbaijan into the civic life of America.
