Ali Karimli: Explosion at Azerbaijan’s Popular Front Party headquarters was not by chance
Leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Ali Karimli believes that the explosion at PFPA headquarters was not accidental, the Azerbaijani news agency "Turan" reports.
According to Ali Karimli it was a deliberate provocation aimed at depriving the party of the office.
Karimli thinks the explosion at the headquarters building was not accidental regarding the arrests of PFPA party activists carried out recently. In addition, the family members of the owner of the building stated that the Azerbaijani authorities have long before threatened them.
"On behalf of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov the owner of the building was forced to break the lease with PFPA. Otherwise, they threatened him to explode or to put the building on fire. Therefore, there is no doubt that the explosion occurred by itself. The goal was to leave the PFPA without headquarters again," Karimli wrote on his Facebook account.
He called on the Azerbaijani authorities to stop pressure on PFPA and to learn lesson from the processes taking place in the world.
As the agency reports the National Council of Democratic Forces also issued a statement condemning the government for the mass arrests of PFPA and for the explosion of the party office.
"Recently, the authorities have launched a persecution campaign of youth activists of the party in order to scare them away from political activities. About 10 activists are arrested on trumped up charges," the statement, which also emphasizes that the reason for this is regime’s fear of recurrence of the Ukrainian events in Azerbaijan.
As for the explosion of the PFPA office, the National Council described it as a provocation aimed at depriving the party of its premises.
National Council called on the Azerbaijani authorities to stop the repression against PFPA, release the detainees and to remember the fate of the corrupt regime in Ukraine.
Yesterday, early in the morning, in the headquarters building of the oppositionist Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, in Baku an explosion occurred. It is noted that according to the preliminary information, the gas leakage from the container caused the explosion. However, the entrepreneur who was renting the storage room where the explosion occurred said that they have never used gas there and there was no container placed there.
