Neocons in the US orchestrated Ukraine coup - HR attorney
Press TV has conducted an interview with Edward Corrigan, Human Rights Attorney, Ontario about the progress of the takeover of the government of Ukraine with John Kerry now scheduled to travel to Kiev.
- I’d like to get your thoughts on the comments made by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev regarding Yanukovych as the legitimate president of Ukraine and denouncing the current new government in the country there.
- The current president of Ukraine was democratically elected and he has not been defeated or overturned by any democratic procedure. It has basically been a coup on the part of Ukrainian right-wing nationalists - some of whom have Nazi-like tendencies who said that their power comes out of the barrel of a gun and they basically forced out the popularly-elected president of the Ukraine. He fled to the eastern part of Ukraine and is now in Russia.
And of course the Russian prime minister is perfectly correct in that there was no proper or legal means to overthrow him, it is essentially a coup.
The United States government spent over five billion dollars trying to destabilize ... and interfere into the internal affairs of a sovereign country. And of course the Americans would go ballistic if anyone were to do the same to their country.
So the whole thing has been orchestrated.
The United States Assistant Secretary to the European Union was caught on her cell phone talking about the five billion dollars that was spent and she actually said some very derogatory words about the European Union... and this is entirely inappropriate for any American politician or any politician to interfere into the internal affairs of a state.
The Russians already have agreements with the Ukrainians that they can put troops into the Crimea and protect their naval bases of which they’ve done.
We’re on the verge of a very dangerous situation where Russian troops have the legal right to go into Crimea and protect their bases and other places; the head of the Ukrainian navy has actually defected to the Russians. I believe a lot of Russian ships and other troops will do the same. Ukrainian ships will do the same and join the Russians in the fleet.
But the Americans, they’ve really gone way over the limit, they’ve pushed the Russians right into their own backyard.
Of course, Ukraine is a divided country, but the majority supported the elected president and this coup cannot be allowed to stand. And it’s very dangerous it could bring the world to the brink of nuclear war.
I can’t see the United States standing if some coup would occur in Canada bringing in one of their opponents and not following proper process.
And this is what we’re seeing with Russia, I think Russia is within its rights in the Crimea area, but also that this is a disastrous play by the neocons in the United States and we’re setting into a very dangerous period and hopefully people will back away from it.
But this is Russia’s backyard and they’re going to control their backyard, they’re not going to be pushed out of it by the Americans or anybody else.
