Expert: If Russia loses Crimea, Turkey will become leader in region
If Russia loses Crimea, where one of the largest Russian military bases is located, Turkey will become a leader in the region. Currently, the balance between the naval forces of Turkey and Russia is very fragile, expert Karen Vrtanesyan told reporters in Yerevan.
According to him, Russia has geopolitical interest in Crimea.
Turkish studies expert Gevorg Petrosyan said for his part that Turkey has claims to Crimea, which is due to the factor of the Crimean Tatars.
“Ankara is trying to strengthen its presence in Crimea. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met with the leaders of the Crimean Tatars in Kiev. He sent a message by announcing that Turkey will support the Crimean Tatars and that Crimea’s unification with Russia is not in Ankara’s interests,” Petrosyan said.
