Severing ties with Russia would be like suicide for Turkey – Shakaryan
The Kremlin will not easily surrender the territories that were once part of the USSR. The world is moving towards a new cold war, Turkish studies expert Artak Shakaryan told reporters while commenting on Russian-Ukrainian relations and possible developments around Crimea.
As regards Russian-Turkish relations, according to the expert, Ankara will not worsen or sever relations with Russia because of Crimea.
“Russian-Turkish relations are very deep. Russia is Turkey’s second trade partner. Turkey depends on Russian gas and oil. Severing ties with Russia would be like suicide for Turkey,” Shakaryan said, adding that meanwhile Russia is constructing its first nuclear power plant in Turkey.
