Expert rules out impact of Ukraine developments on Karabakh conflict
I don’t think the developments in Ukraine will have any impact on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Ruben Safrastyan, Director of the Oriental Studies Institute of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, told reporters in Yerevan.
“Any precedent of self-determination is important for our people. We should take into account the fact that not only Ukraine but also world superpowers are involved in this conflict. In this respect, the Ukraine crisis is an important global phenomenon,” Safrastyan said, adding that our participation in it should be limited to the fact that a large number of Armenians live in Ukraine and Crimea.
“First of all, we should think about the security of our compatriots,” he said.
The historian also said that being a small country located in a dangerous area, Armenia is interested in the settlement of all the conflicts by peaceful means.
