Armenia to set up register of Armenian Genocide victims’ names
The National Archives of Armenia will organize an interim exhibition dedicated to the Armenian Genocide centenary, National Archives director Amatuni Virabyan told reporters. The exhibition will feature original documents, photos and personal items, he said.
Also, according to Virabyan, the National Archives will set up a register of names and places of residence of the Armenian Genocide victims.
“The register will include 200,000-300,000 names. The number of the victims exceeds one million, but it does not matter. A long time has passed and if we started this work earlier like the Jews, we would have more names now. Currently, we can only collect those names which are mentioned in documents and books,” he said.
The Armenian Genocide was recognized by Uruguay, Russia, France, Lithuania, the Italian Chamber of Deputies, majority of U.S. states, parliaments of Greece, Cyprus, Argentina, Belgium and Wales, National Council of Switzerland, Chamber of Commons of Canada, Polish Sejm, Vatican, European Parliament and the World Council of Churches.
