Azerbaijan is not even among twenty largest oil-producing countries
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) data for the year 2012, Azerbaijan was only on the 22nd place among oil-producing countries, writes the Azerbaijani news portal "Minval.az" referring to Azerbaijani service "Radio Liberty."
"The economy of the country needs to get prepared for the non-oil period. Azerbaijan for many years has been proud of its energy supplies - oil and gas. But, apparently, quite soon it will all be behind," says the article.
It is noted that in 2011 the oil production in Azerbaijan began to fall sharply. Economic experts beat the alarm saying the economy needs to get prepare for a non-oil period.
According to the EIA, in 2012, Saudi Arabia is the first on the list of the world oil production. This country produces 11,725 barrels of oil per day. It was followed by the U.S. and Russia.
"Azerbaijan is on the 22nd place in this list. But this is information of 2012. Though in 2013 there was a slight increase in production, the overall trend indicates that in Azerbaijan in the coming years, the oil production will decrease," concludes portal.
