Markarov: Armenia, Ukraine to continue economic cooperation
Ukraine’s statement on withdrawing the CIS membership was related to the Crimea referendum. Ukraine is one of the founders of the CIS and I don’t think Kiev will leave the CIS, Vladimir Jabbarov, first deputy head of the Committee on International Affairs of Russia's Federation Council, said at the Moscow-Astana-Kiev-Yerevan space bridge on Wednesday.
Andrei Suzdaltsev, deputy dean of the faculty of world economy and international affairs at the National Research University "Higher School of Economics," said for his part that Kiev will leave the CIS because Ukraine wants to join the European Union.
“Ukraine is leaving not only the CIS, but also the region, and is joining the European family,” he noted.
Director of Armenian branch of CIS Institute, political scientist Alexander Markarov noted that Armenia and Ukraine will continue bilateral economic cooperation irrespective of Ukraine’s decision to leave the CIS.
“Yerevan and Kiev will maintain the bilateral ties, but Ukraine’s withdrawal from the CIS will affect Ukraine’s economy,” he said.
