Armenian government to amend pension law in line with CC ruling
The Armenian government issued a statement in connection with the Constitutional Court judgement on the constitutionality of the controversial provisions of the pension law.
“The Constitutional Court emphasized that experience of over 50 countries is evidence of the fact that the introduction of the accumulative pension system improves the stability of countries and the wellbeing of peoples. At the same time, the court established that the law contains shortcomings that have to be eliminated by September 30. The government will advance this fundamental reform aimed at raising the wellbeing of people within the framework of the proper constitutional formulations. The government will adopt a plan of action after examining the Constitutional Court’s judgement,” the statement said.
The Constitutional Court of Armenia (CC) has declared invalid a number of provisions of the Law on Accumulative Pensions. At today’s hearing, CC ruled that the provisions declaring the accumulative pension system mandatory are unconstitutional.
