Minval.az: President of SOCAR is one of major business partners of Nur movement
One of the major business partners of Nur movement in Azerbaijan as well as in Turkey is the president of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev, it is stated in the article published on Azerbaijani news portal Minval.az.
According to the article, the official inclusion of the schools and courses of Hizmet movement in the new international educational complex created by SOCAR caused serious concerns to Turkish government. Those suspicions are intensified by the fact that SOCAR offered solid financial assistance to the Turkish branch of Hizmet. It allocated an incredible amount of money to the institutions linked to Hizmet.
“It’s possible that Rovnag Abdullayev did that by the order of the government. But he cannot declare about that, it is impossible. Therefore, although, unlike the head of the Political Analysis and Information Provision Department Elnur Aslanov he managed to keep his job, but he failed to get rid of the status of number 1 target,” the author notes.
According to the article, it is the Turkish special services that drain Azerbaijani media with compromising materials about Hizmet movement as well as local officials linked to it. Abdullayev as well is a target of Turkish sources which send emails with confidential information to newspapers and web resources.
Abdullayev doesn’t protect himself actively. However, he gradually creates a safety belt for himself: media agencies. It certainly can generate additional irritation, the author notes.
As Yeni Musavat learnt from reliable sources the government of Erdoğan demanded from official Baku to liquidate the famous network and dismiss its minions from the government. Currently the main target is Rovnag Abdullayev. Recent reports received a few days earlier as well confirm that Erdoğan wants the president of SOCAR to be removed from his office as well as remove all hizmetists from SOCAR.
As it is stated in the article, in regard to this Baku issued indirect warnings. Recently a company close to Erdoğan Turcas Group announced about suspension of partnership in construction of refinery Star as well as the eponymous terminal. According to the official announcement of Turcas Group, the company is in talks to sell its 18% share of the project. SOCAR is the majority shareholder of Turcas Group.
The author notes that Star Company at first wanted to sell the refinery, 13.5% of its share but then decided to sell all its assets and in this way leave the project entirely. Star’s refinery construction costs 5.5 billion dollars. It should reduce Turkey’s dependence from oil import. In other words, Turkey itself has interests in this project. Star construction is directly controlled by the president of Azerbaijan and part of the project is financed by State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan. The total project cost is estimated at $ 5 billion.
As the author notes, Erdoğan’s government puts pressure on Baku: If Abdullayev is not punished; “five billion project” will fail.
