‘I am against’ movement blocks Nalbandyan Street
Members of ‘I am against’ civil movement have blocked part of Nalbandyan Street in Yerevan. The civil activists are sitting on the roadway. Police are trying to unblock the street. The activists demand that officials meet them to answer their questions.
The civil movement, which is opposed to the introduction of the compulsory accumulative pension system in Armenia, today staged a protest outside the Finance Ministry.
On April 2, the Constitutional Court of Armenia (CC) declared invalid a number of provisions of the Law on Accumulative Pensions. The law that entered into force on January 1, 2014 required that all the Armenian citizens born after January 1, 1974 must transfer 5% of their monthly salaries to a pension fund, with another 5% to be paid by the state.
