Marukyan: Armenia must change its position on Genocide
Armenia must change its position on the Armenian Genocide of 1915, head of the Department of the Armenian Cause and the Armenian Genocide of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Armen Marukyan told reporters.
“For centuries, our people have struggled for the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide and parliaments of over two dozen countries as well as international organizations have adopted resolutions condemning the Armenian Genocide, but it is obvious that the current path is leading us to a deadlock,” he said.
Marukyan stressed that the issue should be reformulated as “overcoming the consequences of the Armenian Genocide,” which necessarily implies compensation.
The Armenian Genocide was recognized by Uruguay, Russia, France, Lithuania, the Italian Chamber of Deputies, majority of U.S. states, parliaments of Greece, Cyprus, Argentina, Belgium and Wales, National Council of Switzerland, Chamber of Commons of Canada, Polish Sejm, Vatican, European Parliament and the World Council of Churches.
