Haqqin.az: Correspondence of former chief propagandist of Azerbaijan with CIA agents unveiled
Elnur Aslanov, being the head of the Department of Political Analysis and Information Support of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, has been under constant scrutiny of foreign secret services for the past few years and has served as a valuable source of information for structures standing close to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, reads the article written by Rauf Kerimli, published in Azerbaijani news portal "Haqqin.az."
It is all about close contacts and the illegal cooperation of high-ranking official with the U.S. private intelligence structure Stratfor, known as the "shadowed CIA."
The author explains that the main principle of this organization is as follows – if the target is worth-while for any subversive activity, the staff working at Stratfor, must take such a source under its control. This direction of activities director of Stratfor, George Friedman explains, for example, to his analyst Reva Balla. Friedman writes to her: "If you think the target is worth-while, you have to take it under control. This control may be financial, sexual, or psychological. He should be brought to a stage where we could put before him tasks we need." Reva Balla was in Baku in fall of 2011 and was in close contacts with Elnur Aslanov.
The portal then presents the correspondence of Aslanov and Reva Balla where they make an appointment to meet and to "discuss geopolitical issues." The author writes that judging by the correspondence Aslanov has been repeatedly recruited by various security services. "That is why they did not hesitate in Washington to send him and his team-members questions of reconnaissance nature" he writes.
In one of the Washington queries, dated in October 2010, state secrets are openly discussed, the article reads. Lauren Goodrich of Stratfor writes him: "I find it interesting that the representatives of the presidential administration headed to Moscow after all the problems with the United States. I'm curious what Russia will promise them." The writer of the letter asks to "convey reverence" to a certain person, whose name "Haqqin.az" does not reveal.
"The letter of Goodrich was sent to an employee of one of the Azerbaijani news agencies. In the letter she also passes her reverence to the chief of the agency. The content of her message surprised us, as until now, everyone thought that Aslanov used only 1news.az as an information resource for building-up his plans." It turns out that the pernicious influence of the former head of the department of the Presidential Administration has spread to other structures as well. The abovementioned head of the agency does not leave any direct traces in their correspondence, and does not keep online contact. The head leaks information to overseas emissaries through an intermediary, who works for the agency," reads the article.
It also reads that there is also an e-mails correspondence proving that Aslanov was in connection with the Nur. The same Reva Balla, reporting to the Stratfor research center about her meetings and conversations with Elnur Aslanov, writes: "We met with the director of one of the Gulenist schools. I wanted to see how the Gulenists work outside of Turkey, especially in the Soviet zone. It was obvious that the Gulenists in Azerbaijan are very careful in their activities, as the government is closely monitoring them."
"This correspondence actually shows that the private agents from Washington have not come to get only confidential information about the leadership of the country, but also for the inspection of the activities of the Nur in Azerbaijan and assessment of its effectiveness," the author writes. He adds that intensive contacts and correspondence, the desire to get maximum state secrets through Elnur Aslanov speak of the fact that certain forces in the West are trying to find out how strong the Azerbaijani leadership is.
